What? Hollywood is Liberal?

On Memorial Day, May 31st, A&E is broadcasting a new docudrama called "Ike: Countdown to D-Day". It looks promising as an insight into General Eisenhower and the thoughts, planning, and pain that went into the preparations for the war-turning event. On a side-note, I think it's damn interesting that Thomas Magnum -- I mean Tom Selleck -- is going to be playing Ike. But that's besides the point.

The director of the film, Lionel Chetwynd, is conservative in Hollywood, and he spoke to Catherine Seipp, who writes a column for the National Review. It's interesting stuff, and gives you a great insight of the Hollywood culture. My favorite part:

"All through the '30s and into the first part of the war, particularly during the Battle of Britain, there was a position that if we just sit down with that nice Mr. Hitler and talk to him, everything would go away," Chetwynd continued. "And there's some of that now — we just sit down with those nice people, just give them a bit of money and some food, everything will be fine. Well, you know, Eisenhower had a bigger picture than that."

No, he's not joking, and yes, there's really people that think that. I wonder what kind of history grades they received in high school?
