Free Propaganda for Al Qaeda

Michael Totten has an interesting essay up on Tech Central Station today, commenting on the press' laziness. He points out -- rightly so -- that the press' job isn't to copy and paste the terrorists' statements, but to give some sort of a counter-point when it's obvious that one exists. That Al Qaeda said that Nick Berg's beheading was in retaliation for the abuse in Abu Ghraib doesn't mean that it actually was -- in fact, it's very doubtful that that's the case. This should be obvious, and the press shouldn't report it as fact.
