The Captured al Qaeda Letter

This might be a couple days late for some of you, but others that haven't read it, should. This was a letter that the Coalition in Iraq discovered some time ago, written by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a higher-up in the terrorist organization. Most people in the know see this as the Real Thing. Amazing stuff, and without a doubt, a very strong case for the Iraq War being an important step in the War on Terror. Here's an excerpt:

Many Iraqis would honor you as a guest and give you refuge, for you are a Muslim brother; however, they will not allow you to make their homes a base for operations or a safe house. People who will allow you to do such things are very rare, rarer than red sulfur. Therefore, it has been extremely difficult to lodge and keep safe a number of brothers, and also train new recruits.

Could it be that a vast majority of Iraqis just want to get on with their lives and rebuild their country? Could it be that a vast majority of Iraqis see the foreign terrorists and not the foreign liberators as the main obstacle to that goal? I wonder.

The Shi'a in our opinion, these are the key to change. Targeting and striking their religious, political, and military symbols, will make them show their rage against the Sunnis and bear their inner vengeance. If we succeed in dragging them into a sectarian war, this will awaken the sleepy Sunnis who are fearful of destruction and death at the hands of these Sabeans, i.e., the Shi'a.

That's probably their only hope, really. I don't think it'll work, though, due to my last comments. Almost a year later, and for the most part, we still have all three main parties working together, putting together the first Arab democracy.

It's a heartening letter for the good guys. Thanks for the intelligence report, Mr. al-Zarqawi.
